Bill Marra, President and CEO
Bill Marra is the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare’s (HDGH). Bill brings his 23 years of honourable leadership experience in health, public affairs, and community service to the HDGH executive team.
Since joining HDGH in 2011, Bill has been steadfast in his goal to make HDGH the safest hospital in Ontario. Through an industry-leading staffing and operational move, Bill created an in-house security team, welcoming more than 30 HDGH Guards to ensure the safety of patients and healthcare workers. Bill took on the role of President and CEO in January 2022 and in just one year, he led a person-centered model of care change in the Complex Medical Care and Palliative Units, introduced Personal Support Workers to the healthcare unit, established a HDGH Wellness Committee, and formed an EDII Alliance.
Through his previous 23 years of work with the Criminal Justice & Social Services Sector, the Ministry of Correctional Services, 14 years as Executive Director of New Beginnings, and his time on city council, Bill has developed an intimate understanding of the diverse needs of the Windsor Essex community. During his time elected to Windsor City Council, Bill served for six terms on over two dozen committees, boards, and commissions where he worked to address these needs and fulfill gaps in resources. He was later appointed to the Ontario Civilian Commission on Police Services, where he served for four years.
Bill obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degrees in both Sociology and Criminology from the University of Windsor. He received the designation of a Certified Dispute Resolution Mediator through a joint University of Windsor and York University program, and then earned his Master’s Certificate in Public Management from The Schulich School of Business at York University. Bill has continued his professional development over the years with the completion of the Catholic Leadership Formation Program through Catholic Health International; the Advanced Health Leadership Program through the University of Toronto Rotman School of Management Executive Programs; and the San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Program through British Columbia’s Provincial Health Services Authority.
Bill’s achievements and contributions to the community have been recognized through several accolades, including the Municipal Recognition Award from Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens in 2022 for his role and support with COVID-19 Relief Efforts and Services, the Queen’s Jubilee Award in 2012 for outstanding community service benefiting Canadians. Bill has also been recognized for his long standing community service by Autism-Ontario Windsor Essex Chapter, Board of Directors of the Windsor Essex Community Health Centre, University of Windsor Chapter, and Canadian Italian Business Professional Association to name a few.
