Charlene Fraser
As the primary care partner for her husband Stephen, a stroke survivor, Charlene has developed broad experience. This has included advocating for her husband with insurance and financial institutions, navigating the healthcare system and developing relationships with relevant community services. Charlene is not afraid of taking on any challenge big or small.
Her experiences in advocating for her husband lead to a passion for contributing to the service of others and the betterment of all in the community. Charlene’s driving philosophy is that “Life isn’t always easy. Life isn’t always difficult. It is important to serve others in your community and show gratitude for the times your community has served you.”
Charlene was raised in Windsor and returned to the community after she and her husband raised two sons in Oakville/Burlington area to be closer to family and a community she loved and missed.
Throughout her time away and in Windsor, Charlene has actively participated in a range of roles to help others:
- An active member of the HDGH Mental Health & Addictions PFAC since March 2020.
- Part of the HDGH MH&A Emergency Department Functional Program User Group
- A contributing MH&A PFAC member to the HDGH Accreditation 2023 process
- Past member of the Erie St. Clair LHIN PFAC - Windsor/Essex
- Hope Place Treatment Centres, Halton. Assisted with their Family Program
- Co-chaired A.A. Meetings at Vanier Correctional Facility for Women, Milton
- Past member of the Halton Region Disability PFAC
Prior to retiring early to care for her husband, Charlene worked at Sheridan College from 1987 to 2011. Held positions within Admin Services, Human Resources, Continuing & Part Time Studies and lastly the School of Community & Liberal Studies.
