Child and Youth Mental Health Family Navigation Program
The Child and Youth Family Navigation Program is a system resource operated by Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare and Maryvale Adolescent and Family Services that helps underserved youth and their families in Windsor-Essex connect and navigate the local mental health system.
The Family Navigation team is made up of two Navigators working with youth and families who have historically experienced barriers to accessing mental health care. These groups include but are not limited to:
- Indigenous community
- LGBTQ+ Community
- Francophone Community
- Immigrants, refugees, or groups of ethnic and/or cultural minority
- Racialized Youth
- Youth with disabilities
The Family Navigators will form relationships and connections through outreach within our community, connecting with youth and their families where they are, in their familiar, trusted locations. The team will work with youth and families to address barriers, understand specific needs and goals, identify options for care, and help support referrals to appropriate service providers.
Meet the Navigators
Name: Lisa LaRocque
Organization: Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare
About Lisa: My name is Lisa Larocque. I am the Family Navigator from the Regional Children’s Centre, at Hôtel- Dieu Grace Healthcare. I have an educational background in Child and Youth Work as well as a Bachelor’s in Social Work. I have been with Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare for 3 years, in various roles, and have enjoyed every one of them. In my spare time, I love to
spend time with my family, hanging out with my kids and 2 dogs. I value equity and equality for all and believe that we all have a role in breaking down barriers to accessing services. As a community, we can help bring each other up to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be happy, healthy, and
successful.
“I am excited to be out in the community connecting with community organizations, as well as helping support children, youth, and their families.”
Name: Daniel Nehmetallah
Organization: Maryvale Adolescents and Family Services
About Daniel: My name is Daniel Nehmetallah. I am a social worker and Family Navigator at Maryvale Adolescent and Family Services. I was born and raised in Leamington, Ontario, and have experienced the lack of mental health resources available in my local community that I am so passionate about. Working as a Family Navigator will allow me to assist the many youth and families within Windsor-Essex in navigating the often complex mental health system as well as identify barriers that they may be experiencing.
“I am grateful for this opportunity to give back to my community, to provide our resilient families with hope. To watch the Family Navigation Program come to fruition is truly exciting as it truly is a resource needed in Windsor-Essex."
