Child and Youth Mental Health Programs
Crisis Services
Serves children and youth up to the age of 16 years who present in crisis (i.e. who are at significant immediate risk of harm to self or others).
A Social Worker is available to the Windsor Regional Hospital Metropolitan Campus Emergency Department Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on-call during weekends and holidays 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Crisis assessments are completed in consultation with the youth, family and Child Psychiatrist and may involve admission to a mental health bed or pediatrics.
Telemedicine services (OTN – Ontario Telehealth Network) allows Crisis Workers to provide assessments for sites outside of Windsor including Erie Shores Healthcare.
Counselling Clinic
Serves children and youth up to the age of 18 years who are in urgent need to speak to a Social Worker.
Same day, single session counselling through the Counseling Clinic.
The Counselling Clinic is available during the following days and times:
- Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (last appointment time)
- Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (last appointment time)

Outpatient Counselling and Therapy
Serves children and youth between the ages of 6-12 years who are presenting with a range of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma reactions, etc.
Intervention may include therapy (i.e. individual, group, parental, family), psychoeducational or skill based groups.
Assessment and Consultation
Serves children and youth between the ages of 6-17 years.
Children and youth currently receiving services through the Regional Children’s Centre may be eligible to receive a Psychological and/or Psychiatric assessment.
Services are designed to determine diagnoses and inform treatment practices when required.
Intensive Treatment Services
Day Treatment
- Serves children and youth between the ages of 6-12 years who are experiencing significant emotional and behavioural needs that cannot be met through outpatient services.
- Parental/Guardian and community participation is essential to the success of the program.
- Services include individual and family counseling, in home behaviour management education, assessment services as required, recreational activities, specific skill building activities to increase competence, individualized educational program.
- Educational services provided by the Greater Essex County District School Board and Conseil Scolaire Providence.
Residential Program
- Augments the Day Treatment program through providing 24-hour care for some children whose treatment needs are determined to be appropriate for this level of service.
- Parental commitment and involvement to the treatment program are essential.
In Home
- Serves children and youth between the ages of 6-17 years and their families by providing assistance and education regarding effective parenting strategies.
- Child and Youth Workers work collaboratively with families in their home to identify goals to best meet behavioral needs.
