Mental Health and Addictions Response Team (MHART)
MHART
Together, HDGH and Essex-Windsor EMS are redefining the patient experience to ensure individuals who call 9-1-1 will receive the right care, at the right time from the right provider. The Mental Health and Addictions Response Team (MHART) will act as a mobile component of HDGH’s Mental Health and Addictions Urgent Care Centre. It will see an HDGH Mental Health Social Worker paired with an Essex-Windsor EMS Community Paramedic responding to low to moderate acuity mental health and addiction challenges in a marked Essex-Windsor EMS SUV. The team will:
- Provide outreach to patients who have overdosed on opioids, as close to real-time as possible, to make sure harm reduction is provided and determine readiness to seek treatment.
- Improve access to care through alternative pathways and coordinate follow-up care
- Address mental health and/or addiction-related issues, complete assessments and provide education if required in real-time
